Rodney Marsh

Rodney Marsh was born on October 11, 1944 in Hatfield, Herts. He signed as a youth amateur footballer with West Ham at 15 and then one year later, signed professionally with Fulham where he spent 5 years.

At age 21, Rod was signed by Queens Park Rangers and spent the next 7 years playing some of his best football. During Rod’s time at QPR, the team became 3rd Division and 2nd Division Champions. Rod scored 44 goals in one season and a total of 134 goals in 242 appearances He also played as a 3rd Division International (playing for his country, England) and received an England cap with his 3rd division team – something which is unheard of in today’s profession. Rod gained a total of 9 caps for England during his time with the team.

In 1972, at age 27, Rod signed with Manchester City at a record breaking £200,000 transfer fee at that time. He left the club in 1976 and led the exodus of international footballers to play in the North American Soccer League. He signed with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 1976 and became the fan’s favourite, going on to captain his team. Rodney came back to play with Fulham alongside his good mates, George Best and Bobby Moore, which would be the last time they would all play together in England. Rod then returned to the States and played with the Rowdies until 1979 where he went on to become player coach and then Chief Executive of the Club.

As a natural leader, Rod was selected as Captain for every team he played for.

Since playing football, Rod has an impressive media career. He presented for CNN in the US during the 1994 FIFA World Cup which led to signing a contract with Sky Sports as an analyst on a live 6 hour show, Gillette Soccer Saturday.

Rod went on to spend 12 years at Sky and in 2005 joined Talk Sport to host his own daily radio talk show Monday-Friday and also worked exclusively for Talk Sport during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. During this time, he was hired by Yahoo to be their football expert on weekly predictions for the Premiership, Champions League and FIFA 2006 World Cup.

Since working for Talk Sport, Rod also appeared in the 2006 movie, “Once in a Lifetime”, a movie narrated by Matt Dillon, highlighting football in the 70’s in the US which was nominated for a Writer's Guild Award.

In October 2007, Rod appeared as a player and studio analyst on the Sky One production of the Premiership All Stars series.

Rod was a contestant on the most watched reality TV show in the UK, I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, lasting 17 very long days in the Australian jungle and raised over £40,000 for charity.

In December 2007 Rod starred in the UK DVD, Soccer Heroes, and he has appeared on BBC 5 Live, Setanta’s Football Matters and Channel 4’s award winning show, Celebrity Come Dine with Me.

An author of 2 books, Shooting to the Top and Priceless, Rod has over 25 years experience in after-dinner speaking. Aside from his media career, Rod is currently Chief Executive Officer of a successful, property development business in Florida.
